CSU has released their early 2025 Hurricane Season forecast and is predicting another above-average season.
Colorado State University (CSU) has released its early 2025 hurricane season forecast and is predicting it to be busier than usual. La Niña conditions are present but are expected to transition to ENSO neutral conditions in the coming months. However, some uncertainty remains regarding the weather patterns for this summer and fall.
Ocean temperatures in the eastern and central Atlantic are warmer than usual, though not as warm as they were at this time last year. Warmer ocean temperatures and the anticipated ENSO neutral conditions (or potential La Niña conditions) typically create a more favorable environment for hurricanes to form and strengthen.
CSU anticipates a higher likelihood of major hurricanes making landfall along the U.S. coastline and in the Caribbean this year. Remember, it takes one hurricane making landfall to impact the area significantly. Regardless of the forecasts, coastal residents should prepare for hurricanes every season.
